Eliot F. Parkhurst, Sr., 92, died on January 22, 2013 at Beaumont Nursing Center in Northborough, Massachusetts. Husband of Priscilla S. Parkhurst for 60 years, he was born in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the son of Martha Spink and Eliot G. Parkhurst of Providence.
Mr. Parkhurst worked for Royal Doulton & Co. Ltd. of England in its fine china division from 1949 through its acquisition by Waterford Wedgewood and his retirement in 1990.
A graduate of Loomis School in 1939, Brown University in 1943 and Harvard Business School in 1949, Mr. Parkhurst was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. From 1943 through 1945, he served as a commissioned officer, first commanding PT 566, a motor torpedo boat in MTB Ron 29 assigned to the Mediterranean, and then in MTB Ron 12 assigned to the Southwest Pacific and based out of the Philippines. Squadron 12 was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for action in New Guinea from October 1943 to March 1944.
He and his family resided in Northborough for over 50 years where he was active in local politics and served on the town’s Planning Board for many years.
He is survived by his wife; his son, Eliot F. Parkhurst, Jr. of Boston, MA, son, Jeffrey S. Parkhurst and his wife, Anna Jerant, of Sacramento, CA, and daughter, Martha E. Parkhurst of Amesbury, MA; and his sister, Martha (Parkhurst) Sherman of Providence and Shelter Harbor, Westerly, Rhode Island.
A private service will be held at the family summer home in Shelter Harbor at a later date.
