Charlie Rose Bednarz peacefully ended her fight on August 27, 2018, surrounded by friends, family, and music. She leaves behind many who wholeheartedly loved her. She leaves a legacy of fighting like hell, of glitter, and rock music. Statistically, Charlie should not have seen her first birthday, but, much like anything Charlie has ever done, she didn’t care what she was supposed to do and did her own thing without an apology.
In saying goodbye to Charlie the world has lost a bright light, but her impact will be felt forever, reminding us all to #fightlikeCharlie.
A Time for Charlie, and to visit with her family, has been set for Friday, August 31, 2018, from 4-6pm, in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. Please wear something bright and colorful, something other than black, to honor the color and happiness Charlie has brought to the world.
A note to Charlie from her Dad.
Fate whispers to the warrior “You cannot withstand the storm” and the warrior whispers back “I am the storm”
Charlie, you were, and will eternally be, our fierce little warrior. Legend dictates that Viking warriors, with the fear of death absent, were capable of true freedom in battle. You fought so hard each and every day. Were a warrior to fall in battle, then his journey would be just the beginning. May you be at peace in a beautiful meadow, the scars of battle growing dim, your voice being heard once again.
You did not know fear. You did not know limitation. For those who know your story, they know the symbolism of the bumble bee. You disregarded what the medical expectations for you were. You flew so high, in defiance of the odds. You truly did something impossible every day.
I struggle as I write this, smiling, laughing, all while tears stream down my cheeks. I came across a couple of quotes this morning. They reminded me of you, and how you lived life. “Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I will remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then don’t remember me at all.” We are all trying not to mourn your loss, but rather celebrate your life.
I refuse to say goodbye to you Char. You will be with me, with everyone you touched, every day.
“Maybe life isn’t about avoiding the bruises. Maybe it’s about collecting the scars to prove we showed up for it.” You certainly showed up kid, each and every day. Charlie was here!
I love you CharChar.
