Obituary

NORTHBOROUGH

Evelyn “Nanny” (Donovan) LeBlanc, Age 88

It is with great sadness that we announce that Mom died peacefully in her sleep on May 25, 2020. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, February 18, 1932. Evelyn started life in Malden, Massachusetts with parents, James and Miriam (Zimmerman) Donovan and one sibling, beloved big sister, Patricia. She attended Malden Catholic School and worked for a time as a telephone operator before meeting and marrying Louis LeBlanc of Waltham, Massachusetts.

Our sweet mother’s greatest joy in life was being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had her hands full raising 8 wonderful children, 7 cherished grandchildren and 4 beautiful great grandchildren, for a few years in California but primarily in Hudson, MA. Her children, in descending order: Carol Lee LeBlanc (son, John), Janice Marie Bisset (husband, David, children, Annie King, husband, Andrew, daughter, Valerie, Michael, wife, Laura Rathke and Holly), twins Anne Elizabeth Shafroth (husband, Jock, twins Taylor Buono, husband, Jeff, twins Evelyn and Gemma and Kasey Umina, husband, John, son, Carmine) and Philip James, Paul Andrew, twins Thomas Edward (son, Bruce) and Bruce Steven, and Louis Francis Jr. (wife, Nicole).

Mom enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, cross stitching and rug braiding. Lobster rolls were a special anytime treat. Mom was handy with a soldering iron, a skill acquired from many years of working at Digital. Though she never thought so, she was brilliant. Her supervisors recognized her abilities and put her in leadership roles and sent her to college classes. She ended her career as a CAD technician in Research and Development.

Her family meant everything to her. Mom was there to support her family in both good and challenging times. Known as a devoted and loving Mother, she was seen cheering enthusiastically at various sporting events and other activities involving her brood. She could also be found in the Emergency Room or the Principal’s Office. Family was always close to her heart and she thoroughly enjoyed all family gatherings, especially Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

“When God calls, I’ll go”. We miss you and will keep you close to our hearts, always. Rest In Peace.

A memorial service will be arranged next year once the COVID crisis is no more. In lieu of flowers, condolence cards to be shared with the family can be sent to Janice Bisset, 136 East Main Street, Northborough, MA 01532.

Online condolences may be left at www.haysfuneralhome.com.

Your visual beauty is stunning
Both near and far
Along the way overcoming, collisions
Leaving us with sparkling jewels

Giving us opportunities
Witnessing newborns and violent deaths
Your oxygen makes life possible
Ever expanding

You're always in motion, twinkling
A lifetime of amazement
Looking up at you with naked eyes
Breathtaking symmetry, very rare

You’re everything we know

Rapidly rotating young and old
Tightly wound arms
A bright future, around a black hole

Moving away from us
Velocity increasing
Looking for a simple explanation
Far beyond our comprehension

Igniting fireballs
Fantastic phenomenons
Perfectly aligned
Providing new clues

Ambitious effort
Nevertheless we are alive
Fantastic success
Mother universe

It's June and the roses in my garden are beginning to bloom. They remind me of Mum. When she doodled, she always sketched the word Rose, tracing it over and over in sharp, scratchy, block-shaped letters. I'm sure I asked her why but (surprise) don't remember the answer. It's okay; I remember her.

Nanny, you have been in my earliest memories. Whether it was full family get togethers at your home on Hampshire Circle, family vacations to Lake Sunapee where you watched us like a hawk in case we went in the water past our ankles or when you moved into my family home and into my old room. That was a blessing because it meant much more time with you than I would have had. I fondly remember playing cards after dinner. You and mom versus dad and me. I’m sorry you only ever got to win one time. It was amazing that you could be there when I married the love of my life. It broke my heart that you had to leave us before Cameron was born. I remember your mother, LaNanny, even if it was only for a few years and I had hoped Cameron would get to have the same memories of you. He’s curled up on my chest as I write this, with tears running down my face. I can only hope you are watching over him. Rest easy Chancellor Palpatine and know that you were loved by so many.

Nanny, I’ll remember your squishy wrinkly cheeks and sly sense of humor most. Your hugs and smile- all of you. I remember watching the Macy’s Day parade in your room on Hampshire circle with the other kids. The Christmas’s we spent there. I remember Taylor and I having you all to ourselves on weekends so mom and dad could go on a date. We’d watch British ‘Are You Being Served’ and ‘Hercules’. We weren’t allowed to watch Xena because it was “ Inappropriate”- but you would let us sometimes. You were always so quick witted and let me joke around with you about us going dancing at the club. Watching you hold Carmine for the first time is a memory I will always cherish as well. You gave us the best mom and I loved watching your relationship together. Thank you. Thank you for all the love you gave me over the years and thank you for being my Nanny. I will miss you so, so much. I love you.

My heart goes out to all of those in the Leblanc family, all of those close to the Leblanc family and all of those who were lucky enough to have shared time with Evelyn.
Maybe it was because every time I was with her we were always with at least one of her children, more often lots of her children, that she always sseemed to be the center of attention and life of the party even if he was just sitting there looking like the luckiest person in the world. Which is often what I feel like for being part of the gang.
Love you Evelyn, love you everyone.
Live life like she is right there with you

Paul Leblanc Posted at 06:44am
