Obituary for Harry M. Thompson

NORTHBOROUGH
Harry Michael "(Mike" Thompson, aged 87, of Northborough, passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Marlborough Hospital after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 27, 1934, son of Harry and Ruth (Paquette) Thompson.

Cars and the auto industry became his calling during his early teens, as he spent most of his time pumping gas and slicking up cars at Sprangers service station. It was there (in Sprangers back alley) where he taught himself to drive well before his 16th birthday. Sprangers in turn sprung Mike into several subsequent situations in vehicle service and maintenance with Chevrolet, American Motors, Bill Hahn Automotive, Hertz, and Federal Express. During these years he lived in Taylor and Warren, Michigan and in Marlborough, Massachusetts. To pass his time during his retirement he worked in various building maintenance positions, treated himself to numerous slightly-used cars on a near yearly basis, and tirelessly cared for his wife and his spotless house and yard.

Mike is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ann (Nan), his son Michael, his son Robert and wife Lynn, and his son David and partner Gretchen. He is also survived by his granddaughters Hannah, Eva, and Alyssa, and by his step-grandson Shawn. Mike is also survived by his brother Eric and wife Gail. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Ann and brothers Robert and Gary.

To honor Mike's memory, an interment service for his cremated remains, including the Rite of Committal with Final Commendation, will take place at 12 Noon at Howard Street Cemetery, Howard Street, Northborough, on Friday, December 10, 2021. Mike's family respectfully ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be directed to either the Northborough Food Pantry or the American Lung Association.
