Bruce E. Rickard, age 75, of Northborough, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2014. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Patricia (Tabor) Rickard; a daughter, Susan M. Rolfe and her husband Peter of Westborough; a son, Mark E. Rickard and his wife, Jennifer, of Northborough, and two grandchildren, John A. Rolfe and Jacob A. Rolfe, both of Westborough. He also leaves his brother-in-law, James F. Tabor and his wife, Nancy, of Millbury, and nieces and nephews. Bruce was born in New Bedford, MA and was the son of George E. and Eva M. (Riley) Rickard. He graduated from New Bedford High School, Nichols Jr. College and Boston University. He spent his entire business career of over 50 years as an insurance claims professional, and prior to his retirement, he was Senior Regional Claims Manager for A.I.M. Mutual Insurance Companies. He held the insurance designations of CPCU and ARM and was a member of the CPCU Society. Bruce was a past president of the Northborough Lions Club and coached for the Northborough Baseball Association. He was an avid reader, in particular, the history of World War II, and enjoyed all sports, especially the Boston Red Sox and college basketball. Following his retirement he pursued a lifelong interest in amateur radio and obtained his ham radio operator's license. He was also interested in photography and was known as the family photographer. He enjoyed classical music and the opera. His most treasured moments were those he spent with family and friends. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough, MA. The funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, April 16, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Church, 244 West Main Street, Northborough, followed by burial in Howard St. Cemetery.
