Berlin - Florence A. (Wheeler) Ross Martin, 98, died peacefully on Easter Sunday, her favorite holiday, at Beaumont of Northborough. She is predeceased by her husbands, Edward Ross who died in 1946, and Harold Martin in 1984. She leaves her children, David Ross and his wife Marianne of Clinton, Everett Martin of Danvers and Judith Christensen of Berlin; four grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Florence is predeceased by a son Donald Martin, a grandson Michael Ross and a long-time companion, Warren Wheeler. Born in Clinton, daughter of Waldo and Hazel (Sawyer) Wheeler, she was a native of Berlin. She graduated from Hudson High School, class of 1933 and attended Becker Junior College. Florence graduated from Framingham State Normal School in 1940 and began a career teaching school, first in Berlin. She continued teaching in the Northborough Public Schools for 13 years, retiring in 1980. Mrs. Martin was the organist at First Parish Church for 50 years and sang in the choir, which she considered her second family. Florence enjoyed flowers, taking pictures, family gatherings and visiting her cherished friends in Berlin. Through her various efforts, she became one of those who exemplified the heart of the community. Florence was known for baking her delicious cherry squares. Burial will take place privately in South Cemetery. The memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in First Parish Church, 24 Central Street. Please omit flowers.
