Augusta, Maine Ronald H. Wallace died peacefully on April 16, 2015 in the presence of his family. He was born August 21, 1917 in Mars Hill, Maine, the son of Herbert E. and Gladys Glidden Wallace. The former died in 1920 and the later in 1984. Wallace graduated from high school in Mars Hill in 1937 and Colby College, Waterville, Maine in 1941. During World War II he served as a commissioned officer in the United States Naval Reserve in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. Following military service, Wallace devoted his career to providing quality health care to American Veterans. Wallace was employed in 1946 by the Veterans Administration Center at Togas, Maine. He served in top management positions in VA medical hospitals in Maine, New York, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania. While serving in Washington D.C. he served as Administrative Liaison Officer between the VA central office and the numerous VA medical hospitals in Texas. He retired as Center Director, Togus VA Healthcare System in January 1981. Wallace is survived by his wife Elaine Somerville and two daughters, Linda Wallace Seiler of Waterville, ME, and Debra Wallace and her husband Robert Eaton, of Boylston, MA, five grandchildren: Ryan Seiler of Steamboat Springs, CO; Heather Diko of Belfast, ME; Sara Burbine of Brookline, MA; Alissa Burbine of Somerville, MA; Brett Burbine of Liverpool, NY, and great-granddaughter, Guinevere Diko. Wallace's wife of 57 years, Jean Mitchell Wallace, died August 17, 1999. Pamela Wallace, a daughter, died in Williamsburg, VA in February 2008. Wallace was a member of The American College of Health Care Executives, the Masons, Maine Society of Mayflower Descendants, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Augusta Kiwanis Club and the South Parish Congregational Church, Augusta. During his life he enjoyed most recreational activities but most of all he enjoyed his family. A Committal Service will be held May 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Maplewood Cemetery in Fairfield, Maine. A reception will follow the service.
