Northborough- Stephen Mendrala, 62, died on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at UMass/ Memorial Healthcare Center (University Campus), Worcester Mass. He leaves his loving wife of 23 years, Jane (Furness) Mendrala; his daughter Renee Mendrala of San Francisco, CA; step- daughter, Melanie Hellen of FL; his adoring granddaughters, Mikela Jane Ziegler of FL and Olivia Obenour of San Francisco; his sister, Janet Moreau and her husband Richard of New Bedford; a niece, Anne Marie Beady; 2 nephews, Mike and Mark Moreau. Stephen was born and raised in New Bedford, MA, son of the late Aloysius Paul and Sophie (Polchlopek) Mendrala. He graduated from New Bedford High School and attended UMass Amherst. Stephen was an avid motorcycle and car enthusiast who enjoyed racing and working on cars. He enjoyed spending time attending car shows and races at NE Speedway, Limerock and Watkins Glen. He will be missed by his friends and family for his dry sense of humor and love of life. Visitation hours will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 from 6-8p.m. at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. A Memorial service will follow in the funeral home at 8:00p.m. Burial will be private.
