Berlin - Virginia H. (Kavanaugh) Johnson, 94, passed away peacefully July 7, 2014 at Beaumont of Northborough. Her husband Randolph E. Johnson died in 1985. Born in Chelsea, she was the daughter of the late John and Louise (Bond) Kavanaugh. Virginia leaves behind her sister, Hope Fermoyle of Fox Island, WA; her sister in law, Alice Kavanaugh of Southborough, her brother in law, Willard Wheeler of Berlin, four nieces and four nephews; she is predeceased by her brother Lee Kavanaugh who died in 1994, a sister, Joanne Wheeler who died in 2013 and one niece. Mrs. Johnson lived 40 years in Marlborough before moving to Berlin in 1996 where she lived for the next 14 years. She most recently resided at Whitney Place in Northborough. Virginia spent her career teaching voice lessons for 50 years until her retirement in 1994. Highlights of Mrs. Johnson's accomplished career were singing with the Chorus Pro Musica in collaboration with the Boston Pops Orchestra under conductor Arthur Fiedler and with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus in collaboration with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under conductor Leonard Bernstein. She was a soloist at Immaculate Conception in Marlborough. She served as a Girl Scout leader with Bay Path Girl Scouts. Virginia was a former curator of the Marlborough Historical Society. Her memberships included: National Association of Teachers of Singing, St. Anne's Church in Marlborough and St. Joseph's Church in Berlin. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. July 11, 2014 in Maplewood Cemetery in Marlborough. PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO THE CEMETERY. There are no calling hours.
