Annie’s Life Story
The Life Story of Annie Colline King
1927-2026
Her radiant smile would greet everyone she met right up to her final days. Annie died May 29, 2026, 12 days after happily celebrating her 99th birthday at Liberty Commons, Chatham, MA. The community of Broadreach Hospice and all her family members were able to communicate their love and goodbyes to this remarkable, sincerely, genuine woman. The most amazing part of Annie story is the last two years after moving across the street from assisted living to Liberty Commons, the long-term facility. In 2024, she decided her favorite spot was in the lobby at the entrance to the building. She loved the sun shining in the big south facing windows near the front door. She saw a need to help visitors enter by pressing the handicap button to have the door open before the visitor, delivery person or EMT would reach the entrance. She was dedicated to be there if at all possible every day for a couple hours in the morning and a few hours in the afternoon to do this “job”. In November 2024 the administration gave her an official badge to wear as the door greeter. She never forgot to wear this badge, one of her many hats and gloves, her hands were always cold, and her pearls on Mondays. She was featured in the Broadreach Newsletter “Meet Annie”. She was so happy meeting and making friends, always with a smile. She didn’t have time for attending other activities and could hear the music performances in the open lobby anyway. Annie's team of caregivers brought her with oxygen for the last day at the lobby on May 27, 2026. A friend of Annie‘s niece, Laurie, was there and took her picture, of course with a smile on her face.
Annie was a child of the depression born in a house on South Street in Northborough, MA to the late Eva Louise (Guertin) Labelle and Felix Nelson Labelle, both of French Canadian descent. The stories of and fond memories of her grandparents, the Guertin’s on Summer St. with aunts, uncles, cousins and friends from town were shared with family up to the end of her long life. Annie's sister Audrey Allsobrooks died on May 23, 1979 at the young age of 53, survived by her five daughters, Judie Newton, twins Laurie Hinds and Linda (James) Notaro and the late Sharon Jack, and Patricia Charbonneau.
Annie was the wife of the late Philip R. King Sr. They met while attending school in Northborough. Philip’s twin sister Phylis encouraged their courtship. They were married July 20, 1945 and enjoyed 55 years building a life together with their three children Susan, Florence “Flo” and Philip R. King Jr. “Skip”. Camping was a favorite family way to vacation, even in the back yard. Annie worked many years at Fawcett Farm on Church Street. Many townies may recall her days working in the cafeteria of Northborough’s Melican Middle School. Phil was a custodian there until his retirement. Annie cared for Phil until his passing in 2000. She lived 80 years in Northborough mostly on Easy St., a little known private rural area off Oak Ave. Flo cared for her during a near fatal illness with Lyme disease, which left her with some mobility issues. In 2009 she moved to Brewster, MA to live with her oldest daughter, Susan and son-in-law Peter Wile. Flo now resides in Ludlow with her partner John Boland. Annie’s son Philip King Jr. lives with his wife Cheryl, her mother Linda and their son Micheal in Tampa, Florida. Nephew, David (Santa) Channin lives in Eaton, CO.
Annie is survived by her grandchildren, Chris LeBlanc (Kelly), Joshua Wile (Meaghan), Kate Vejar, Jess Wile (Chad) Thomas, Richard King, Micheal King, Kristen (James) Patterson, Cyle King, Nicole King and great grandchildren, Madison Vadenais; Conor, Kiera and Margaret Wile; Star and Luna Patterson; and Raynel Durrence.
Annie’s family was the heart of her soul. All were close at hand in her trusty flip cell phone. The whole family kept “Nannie” (what all her great grandkids called her) up to date downloading photos to her ViewClix. This was a slideshow machine that Philip was able to live video and call her weekly from Florida! I’m sure this is what kept her going to the end.
A graveside service will be held at 12Noon on Wednesday, June 10th, in Howard Street Cemetery, Northborough.
Annie's family respectfully suggest memorial contributions be made in her name to the charity of your own choosing.
