Arvid L. Larson, 86, passed away at home on September 28, 2014, surrounded by loving family, after a long battle with cancer. He leaves his sister, Ellen Oberg of Northborough; two nephews, Carl Scott and his wife Astrid of Millbury; Bruce Oberg and his wife Sarah of Northborough; his niece, June Roman and her husband Michael of Northborough; numerous great nieces and nephews. Arvid is predeceased by a nephew, Rolf Larson, and a niece, Elaine (Scott) Anderson. Born and raised in Worcester, he was the son of Swedish Immigrants Carl L. and Alma M. (Carlson) Larson. Mr. Larson lived most of his life in Worcester. A graduate of South High School, he enlisted in the Army and served in the Military Police shortly after World War II. Upon his return from the service, Arvid graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. A draftsman by trade, Mr. Larson worked at American Optical in Southbridge and at General Electric in Lynn. An avid outdoorsman, Arvid enjoyed his iceboat, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, skiing, and hunting. He last skied in 2009, at the age of 81. Years ago, Mr. Larson was active with the Boy Scouts at Treasure Valley Scout Reservation in Rutland. Arvid was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014 from 10 – 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St. Northborough. He will be laid to rest in the Larson family lot in Old Swedish Cemetery in Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O.
