Obituary

Northborough Barbara (Scott) Houston, 79, passed away on May 16, 2014 at Shrewsbury Crossings, Shrewsbury following a long illness. A longtime resident of Northborough, Barbara was born in Worcester to Andrew Scott and Mary Dick (Winning) Scott.She married John Houston at Wesley United Methodist Church in Worcester. John predeceased her in 1999. She is survived by four sons, John S. Houston of East Fishkill, NY, James S. Houston of Northborough, Donald A. Houston of Worcester, Brad R. Houston of Chagrin Falls, OH, their wives, 12 grandchildren, her sister Janet (Scott) DeNapoli of Southborough, her brother James Scott of Wilmington, NC, and many nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by a son Douglas A. Houston in 1993 and a brother Walter Scott in 2013. Barbara graduated from Worcester High School of Commerce. She was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Worcester, and will be remembered for over 50 years as a Sunday School teacher, her work at State Mutual and Northborough schools, time she gave to other organizations including Boy Scouts, and her love of gardening, knitting, children and enjoyed regular trips to Disney with her grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on May 22 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Howard Street Cemetery, Northborough. Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. May 21 at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Barbara's name to Shriner's Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104, or to Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
