Carol A. (Simmons) Sornberger, 75, passed away on November 24, 2016 at River Terrace in Lancaster, after a period of declining health. She leaves her children, George Sornberger of Boxborough; Robin Sornberger and her partner Teresa Weaver of Boylston and Dr. Kris Sornberger and his wife Andrea of Bangor, Maine; her two grandchildren, Paige and Cole Sornberger. Born in Providence, and raised in Cumberland, RI, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Germaine (Camire) Simmons. She graduated from University of Rhode Island in 1963 and went on to earn her Master's degree in Education from Fitchburg State University. Her elementary school teaching career spanned 40 years. She taught in the Lowell Public School System until her retirement in 2010. Carol spoke fluent Spanish. She was a longtime member of the Boylston Garden Club and a proud volunteer of Sunshine Golden Retriever Rescue. Carol enjoyed spending summers in Charlestown, RI with her many golden retrievers. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 4-6 p.m. in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St. Northborough. The funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 30th at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, 244 West Main St. Northborough. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston.
