Cary E.
Garner
December 14, 1947 – April 21, 2024
NORTHBOROUGH
Cary E. Garner, 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2024, after a short and most valiant battle against cancer. Cary is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Barbara S. (Schifftner) Garner; their two beloved children, Scott Garner and his wife Mary of Marlborough and Jane Garner of Franklin; five grandchildren whom he adored (Megan Garner, Allie Garner, Charlie Souza, Sarah Garner and Abby Souza). Cary also leaves his beloved sister, Connie Sullivan of Bogart, Georgia.
Cary was born in Miami, Florida and raised in northern New Jersey, the son to Eugene F. and Lucy "Connie" M. (McCannon) Garner. He was a 1965 graduate of Ramapo Regional H.S. and a proud 1970 graduate of West Point. Cary honorably served in the U.S. Army. After his return to civilian life he began his lifelong career as a sales executive in the biotech – pharmaceutical field; working for IBM, Abbott Laboratories, and Parexel until his retirement in 2010.
To know Cary was to know what being a model dad and grandfather should be. He was a role model for his children and grandchildren, an integral "all in" part of their upbringing. Attendance at numerous sporting and dance recitals was a must, devoted until his final days. An optimist, Cary looked from the positive side of a situation. Friends and family will treasure his creative storytelling and laughter.
Calling hours will be held from 5-8pm on Monday, April 29th, at Hays Funeral home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. Cary's funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11am on Tuesday, April 30th. Cary's family respectfully request in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be directed to the Nick Strong Foundation Inc at https://nickstrongfoundation.com/ , a cause Cary deeply cared about.
