Obituary

Hsieh, Chih-Shang of Northborough, Massachusetts, passed away on Wednesday, December 26th, 20012 at the age of 79 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Shanghai, China, he was the youngest of 3 children.

He worked as a civil engineer at the Taiwan Directorate General of Highways for more than 40 years. Throughout his career, he served as the Material Research Lab Director, Highway Planning Department Head, and retired as the Chief Engineer of the bureau. His most significant contributions included the construction of the new Chung-Hsing Bridge, the MacArthur Thruway construction, the West Coast Expressway planning, design and execution, and Taiwan's 10-year Highways Improvement Plan. He ultimately received the Silver Honor Award from the Taiwan Ministry of Transportation in 1999. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed visiting with family and friends, going fishing with his granddaughters and spending time with his beloved wife.

Chih-Shang is survived by his older sister Xiu-Yu Hsieh, of Shanghai, China; his wife, Tzuen-Chow of Northborough, MA, and three children: Ken and his wife Ya-Ya, of San Jose; CA, Chih-Cheng (Frank) and his wife Yu-Cheng Wang, of Northborough, MA; Lan-Hui and her husband Jacques Virasak, of Trumbull, CT. He is also survived by seven granddaughters: Michelle, Mary, Phoebe, Amy, Christine, Theresa and Jacqueline.
