Dorothy R
Charest
November 10, 1926 – January 14, 2023
Dorothy Regina (Casey) Charest, 96, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2023 at Royal of Cotuit in Mashpee. She leaves behind her five children, Gerard Charest and (Marcia) of Escondido, CA; Cynthia D'Appolonia and (Vincent) of Carmel, NY; Karen Mekjian and (Warren) of Mashpee; Mark Charest and (Sally) of Princeton; Leon Charest of Athol; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Armand; brothers James and Kenneth; sisters Lillian, Helen, Margaret, Evelyn, and Genevieve. Born in Milford, Dorothy was the youngest child of James and Caroline (McEachren) Casey.
Dorothy and Armand were married December 29, 1951 in Baltimore Maryland shortly after his discharge from the Army. Following the birth of their first child, Gerard, in 1952 they moved to Worcester where they were blessed with four more children. Dorothy was totally devoted to her family and took great pride in raising her children as her life's work. She particularly enjoyed the many summer days of family camping in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and weekend excursions to Hampton Beach. Dorothy loved drawing and painting and was extremely talented in turning a flat beach rock and many other mementos gathered by her children into works of art. Baking was her specialty and she took great pleasure incorporating wild blueberries and apples picked by her children, into delicious pies and pastries for all to enjoy. In 1971, as her children grew into teenagers and young adults, Dorothy and Armand relocated their family to Northborough where they both resided for forty-one years.
After a private funeral service Dorothy will be laid to rest beside Armand in Howard Street Cemetery, Northborough. Services are under the care of Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough.
