Frederick H. Borden, 90, passed away in Cape Coral, Florida, with his devoted wife, Bette Jean (Faulker) Borden by his side. He leaves behind five children, Diane McNally of Marlborough, MA, Sally Palmer of Loris, SC, Susan Buzzell of Cape Coral, FL, Tonia Cullen Porada of Venice, FL, and Robin Barbre of Santa Barbara, CA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Fred was a native of Waltham, MA, but spent most of his life in Berlin, MA, where he lived with the love of his life for 40 years, June (Whitman) Borden, who predeceased him in 1999. In addition to owning and operating Nashoba Welding Company in Berlin, he also was a member of the Berlin Auxiliary Police Department.

But Fred's life was not just welding and patrolling the streets of Berlin; he lived life on the edge, full of adventure and thrills. He could be seen on any given day at the Stow Minute Man Airport flying his single-engine Cessna; or navigating the challenging waters of Buzzards Bay in his 32-foot Chris-Craft cabin cruiser; or cruising the back roads of New England on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle with family members or his beloved Blue Knights. But his true passion, one that spanned almost two decades, was car racing, and anyone who lived within a 10 mile radius of Route 9 in Westborough will remember the whining engines on a Saturday night coming from Westboro Speedway. And, of course, the most famous car on the track was driven by Freddy Borden in the red number "10". He held the track record for the most championships and the most number of wins, and donned the nickname "Fearless Freddy". A true tribute to his racing prowess, Fred was inducted into the New England Auto Racers Hall of Fame on November 16, 2014.

Fred's adventurous side eventually gave in to Father Time, so he retired and moved to North Fort Myers, Florida, where his strong love for the ocean was calling. He was fortunate enough to meet and marry another wonderful woman, "Jeannie" who cared for him and stood by his side for the remainder of his life.

Fred was a kind, soft-spoken, loving man, who squeezed every ounce of life, love and adventure out of his 90 years. He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, loving him, and cheering him across the finish line.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street Northborough, MA 01532. A graveside service will take place on Saturday, October 7th at 10 a.m. in South Cemetery, Berlin.
