Obituary

Gail Madeline Ceanga York Wright

Gail Madeline Wright, aged 86, passed away unexpectedly on March 9, 2021 in Boston, Massachusetts after a brief illness.

Gail was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1934, into a thriving community of Romanian immigrants. She later married a member of the community in 1952 and had three children. During her marriage to John Robert (Bob) York, Gail and the family lived in Minnesota, Ohio, Massachusetts, and finally Louisiana, where her husband started North American Hydraulics.

After Bob's death in 1983, Gail travelled extensively with her sister, Patricia, and together they visited the far East, Egypt, and Europe.

Through a blind date, Gail met and later married her second husband, Charles Edward Wright, in 1985. As a couple they continued to live in Louisiana where Charlie was a lobbyist for AT&T. Charlie passed away in 2020.

Gail is survived by a sister, Patricia Ceanga, of Palmetto, Florida, and three children from her marriage to John Robert York; Patricia Finn of Millville, Massachusetts, Rick York of Mandeville, Louisiana, and Kim LaRousse of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She also had seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren all of whom she loved dearly.

After her husband Charlie's passing in December of 2020, and after discussions with her three adult children, Gail decided to move to Massachusetts to be closer to family. Her last weeks were happily and excitedly spent getting better acquainted with three granddaughters, five great-grandchildren and a new puppy, as well as planning to furnish and move into a senior living apartment.

Gail will always be remembered for her sweet soprano singing voice. She loved travel, decorating, gourmet cooking, entertaining, and flower arranging, where she was a member of the Baton Rouge Garden Club and won many awards for her flower arranging abilities.

Although Gail was raised in a Romanian Orthodox family, she respected and enjoyed all religious denominations during her lifetime and most recently, with her husband Charlie, belonged to the Broadmoor Baptist Church of Baton Rouge.

She was a wonderful wife, hostess, mother, grandmother, and friend, and will be missed by all who were privileged to have known her.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the ASPCA at American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 424 E. 92nd St, New York, NY 10128-6804 (www.aspca.org).

Arrangements have been under the care of Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough, MA 01532.
