NORTHBOROUGH

Gary A. Karagosian, 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home during the early morning hours of Monday, October 12, 2026. He was the devoted husband of Geraldine M. “Gerry” (Duane) Karagosian, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage until her passing in 2019.

Born and raised in Worcester, Gary was the son of the late Aram and Annahid (Asalnian) Karagosian. Shortly after graduating from Commerce High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Following his honorable military service, Gary returned to Worcester and began working as a typesetter in the printing division of the Worcester Telegram & Evening Gazette.

Throughout his life, Gary pursued a variety of career opportunities, guided by both his personal interests and a desire to provide a better life for his family. During the late 1960s, he spent several years working as a disc jockey known as “Gary Peters” at radio station WSRO in Marlborough. He later turned his attention to sales, most notably in the automobile industry and subsequently in the appliance department at Jordan Marsh’s Worcester Galleria store.

With an appreciation for the open road and the people he met along the way, Gary spent 23 years as a driver for Winter Hill Frozen Food Corp. He especially enjoyed the opportunity to meet people, exchange stories, and develop friendships along his delivery routes. One story Gary often shared was surviving the 1953 Worcester tornado. Following his retirement from Winter Hill, Gary remained active, continuing delivery work with NAPA Auto Parts and the United States Postal Service.

A lifelong photography enthusiast, Gary had a natural eye for capturing the moment. He especially enjoyed photographing nature, although family and friends occasionally found themselves in front of his camera as well. He was a longtime, active member of the A.V. Camera Club and took pleasure in exhibiting his photographs at local events, including those held at the Northborough Senior Center and the Bolton Fair. Another favorite pastime was his daily visits to local coffee shops, where he was a familiar face and the waitresses knew him by name.

Gary is survived by his two daughters, Suzanne H. Garron and Linda M. Brodeur and her husband, Matthew; four grandchildren, Michael Holzwarth, Jennifer Karagosian, Holly Brodeur and her fiancé Justin Vincent, and Elizabeth Brodeur; and six beloved great-grandchildren, Aidan, Camdyn, Teagan, Brookelynn, Daniel, and Maverick. He also leaves his cousin whom he was close to – Gloria (Karagosian) Lanski as well as many nieces and nephews. Gary was predeceased by his son, Gary A. Karagosian, Jr., his twin brothers Donald and David Karagosian and by by step-mother Vicki Karagosian who raised the Karagosian boys after the untimely death of Annahid during the Worcester Tornado.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 19, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. Gary's funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 20, at 11:00 a.m. Private interment, with military honors, will follow in Howard Street Cemetery, Northborough.

Gary's family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of VNA Care Hospice for the compassionate care, kindness, and support provided to both Gary and Geraldine during their final days.
