Gerd L. (Nilsen) McManus, died at the Coleman House in Northborough on June 16, 2014 after a period of declining health. She was 91. Her husband Harold J. McManus died in 2004. She leaves her loving children, Brian McManus and his wife Liz of Northborough; Timothy McManus and his wife Deborah of Mashpee; Margaret Zimmerman and her husband Frank "Zim" of Northborough; Judith Deuel of Worcester; she is predeceased by her daughter Kathleen Orciuoli of New York who died in 1997; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; many nieces & nephews. Born in Mandal, Norway, she was the daughter of Haakon and Adelaide (Johannasen) Nilsen. Gerd immigrated from her native Norway at the age of ten, settling in Brooklyn, NY. Gerd and Harold lived in East Greenbush, nNew York. Harold and Gerd enjoyed retirement in Florida and Cape Cod before moving to Westborough. Mrs. McManus was an avid golfer for many years and enjoyed reading. Gerd lived for her family. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St. Northborough. A graveside service will take place on Friday, June 20th at 11:00 am in Howard St. Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home from 9:30-10:30 before traveling in procession to the cemetery.
