Gladys Ruth Ebel Ohlsson

Born January 10, 1921 in Shafter, California

Her father, George Jacob Ebel was born October 4, 1867 in Germany. Her mother, Katherine Sophie Schutz Ebel was born January 5, 1881 in Germany.

George and Katherine and their children were part of a German community that lived within the borders of Russia. When their belonging began to be taken by the Russians, they decided to escape at night. They decided to come to America and were sponsored (as was required then) by relatives in Kansas.

The family arrived in the United States Nov. 11, 1908 on Grand Trunk Line (boat name Pretoria Allen Line Royal Mail Steamer). They arrived at point Huron.

Gladys was the youngest of George and Katherine's 13 children. She was born in Shafter, California and went to Wasco High School. She then became a Bookkeeper and office manager for an Art School in Southern California. During the war, she was a bookkeeper for the war department (Minter Field California). She was promoted to office manager for Trans Ocean Airlines (Indonesia Cadet training program). After marrying Olof, her second husband, she was the bookkeeper for his medical practice.

She had a pilot license and flew one solo flight. She loved that flight but thought about her then two daughters on the ground. She landed and never flew solo again!

Gladys loved golf. She was the 1960 2nd Flight Club Champion at Bakersfield Country Club. She was also runner club champion at Monterey Peninsula Country Club. In her golfing career she had three hole in ones! Gladys also loved interior decorating and

cooking.

Gladys married Erwin E. "Swede" Jensen (deceased) and had two daughters Mardo Marlene Ohlsson Eaton of Twin Falls Idaho and Jerrilyne Joy Colonero of Northborough, Massachusetts. She was divorced and married Dr. Olof Gustaf Ohlsson on September 27, 1952. They had one daughter Sandra Lee Ohlsson Tyler of Billings, Montana.

Gladys also has three son-in-laws Curtis H. Eaton of Twin Falls Idaho, Benjamin H. Colonero Jr. of Northborough, Massachusetts and David L.Tyler of Billings, Montana.

Her five Grandsons and their wives are Craig and Natasha Colonero, Curtis and Kendra Martell Colonero of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, Clayton Colonero of Worcester, Massachusetts, and Dylan and Whitney Eaton of Boise, Idaho. She has one grandson, Grant Tyler who is deceased.

She has six beloved great grandchildren Dante Colonero, Gianni Colonero, Sofia Colonero and Stella Colonero of Shrewsbury Massachusetts and Alex Eaton and Andrew (Drew) Eaton of Boise Idaho.

Services are private.

Burial is at San Carlos Catholic Cemetery in Monterey, California
