Henry Leo Marcoux, 26 year resident of Sudbury, MA, born on February 14, 1937 in Bridgeport, CT, passed away Monday, October 6th 2014. Raised in Springfield Massachusetts he was a tireless hockey player playing on several teams at once up to the level of semi-professional. Henry earned his Bachelors Degree and Masters of Education at Westfield State University. While teaching middle school he made use of his science background working in laboratories various hospitals on Springfield, Ludlow and Concord Massachusetts. Through his school years and some time after Henry was an avid golfer entering many tournaments through his young adult life. In 1968, his golfing days quickly fell behind him after his first parachute jump at Parachutist Incorporated (P.I.) in Orange, Massachusetts (now known as JumpTown). He learned and taught the joys of skydiving along side many pioneers of the sport. As an instructor he introduced countless people to the sport through first jump courses at P.I., Connecticut Parachutist Incorporated, Turners Falls, and Pepperell Skydiving Center in Pepperell Massachusetts. He later went on to compete in accuracy competitions nationally and serve as the regional Safety and Training Officer for the U.S. Parachute Association. He enjoyed performing demonstration jumps with his friends at local fairs, air shows and festivals. His favorite demonstration stories came from opening for stunt motorcycle rider Evil Knievel. As a teacher in Ludlow, Wilbraham, Orange and Concord Massachusetts school systems, he was always very popular with his students. He was appreciated for his sense of humor and enthusiasm for science and willingness to stray from traditional teaching methods. Henry coached several sports, with his multi-year undefeated girls hockey teams being among his proudest coaching accomplishments. Former students were quick to pick him out of a crowd for years after he left teaching after 20 years. A favorite refrain of his, often repeated to his own children was "I'll never let school interfere with your education." He fostered a love for history through his activities with living history organizations with particular focus on the American Revolution. He joined the Concord Minutemen in the late 1980's and went on to participate in battle reenactments and colonial era encampments with many other living history groups including Sudbury Minute & Militia, Regiment St Onge, and His Majesties' 5th Regiment of Foot. His participation in reenactments and encampments brought him to locations from Virginia to Quebec, Canada and France. He enjoyed playing the role of Surgeon sharing his knowledge of 18th Century Medicine with squeamish spectators. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Fran, daughter Liz, sons Shawn and his wife Lisa and Andrew Marcoux as well as three Grandchildren Emily & Grace Marcoux and Zachary Skowronek. A remembrance of Henry and his life will be held Wednesday October 15th, at 6:30 - 9:00pm at Concord Academy's Moriarty Athletic Campus, 153 Fair Haven Rd, Concord, MA. His earthly remains will be returned to the sky by his sons at Jumptown in a final skydive at a later date.
