Berlin - Joanne (Kavanaugh) Wheeler was born on March 14, 1922, in Northampton, MA. She died peacefully at her home on June 26, 2013. Joanne leaves her husband, Willard Wheeler; two sons, Timothy and Richard; two grandsons, James and Nate; her daughter-in-law, Janet Woodward; and two sisters, Virginia Johnson and Hope Fermoyle. Her brother, Lee Kavanaugh, predeceased her. Joanne attended Waltham public schools and moved to Berlin in 1940. She was a former member of the Berlin Conservation Commission and was instrumental in establishing many hiking trails on Berlin conservation land. Joanne was a founding cooperator of Berlin Retirement Homes. She enjoyed gardening, hiking, skiing, travelling and collecting antiques. For many years, Joanne helped tend the family farm and could be found bunching asparagus, making hay or picking blueberries. Over the past 50 years, she contributed her time and talent in the preservation and presentation of Berlin's historical collections as a member of the Berlin Art and Historical Society.
