Northborough-

John Joseph Flanigan (Jack) 92, husband of the late Marie (Tacconi) Flanigan, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2014. He was born in Milford, MA September 25, 1922, son of John Thomas and Catherine Agnes (Clancy) Flanigan. Jack graduated from Saint Mary's HS, Milford and attended Holy Cross College, until his enlistment in the Navy during WWII as a Navy pilot and flight instructor. He married the love of his life, Marie, during his military service, and together they had six children-two daughters and four sons. On return to civilian life, Jack joined his father in the family shoe company in Marlborough, MA. Later, Jack worked at Bay State Abrasive Company/Dresser until his retirement. Jack was a communicant at Saint Rose of Lima Church and was an active member of the American Legion Post 234, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

He will be greatly missed by his six children and their spouses: Kathy and Bill Ford, Renie and Bruce Martin, Jay and Linda Flanigan, Robert and Sharon Flanigan, Peter Flanigan, Richard and Lynn Flanigan, and his 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren. Jack leaves his brother Tom Flanigan of Shrewsbury. Jack is preceded by sisters: Helen Phillips, Maree Wood, Nan Curley, and Kathy Flanigan. Jack leaves many beloved nieces and nephews, cousins and in-laws. He will be missed by family, friends, neighbors, work colleagues, fellow veterans at the Legion, and his Coleman House family. The world has been blessed by his life.

Calling hours are 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northboro. The family invites you to celebrate his life at St Rose of Lima Church, 244 West Main St. Northboro, the funeral Mass will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday Dec. 27th. A private family burial is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Legion Post 234 Scholarship Fund, West Main St., Northboro, Mass 01532.
