Obituary

NORTHBOROUGH

In the late evening hours of Saturday, September 28, 2024, in the familiar surrounding of her own home of 62 years, Josephine Griffin peacefully closed her eyes to this world; awaking to the welcoming arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. At the time of her passing, Josephine was comforted by the supportive presence of her beloved family.

Josephine was born in Langenhaslach, Germany, one of five children to the late Xavier and Viktoria Sailer. Along with her husband, Peter Griffin, Josephine immigrated to the United States in the late 1950s. The couple resided a short time in NYC and then Harvard, Mass., prior to purchasing their Northborough home in 1962, where they would raise their family. After Peter's own passing in 2003, Josephine would independently oversee the daily upkeep of her beloved home. She enjoyed working her flower gardens and truly had a green thumb; her gardens were beautiful.

For numerous years, Josephine worked as a caretaker for several families in the Harvard area. Her skilled and loving attention assisted in the attainment of long life for many of those under her care. Josephine enjoyed playing bingo and for several years was a bingo caller at the Northborough Senior Center. Devote to her Catholic upbringing, Josephine was a faithful parishioner of Saint Bernadette Parish. She hardly ever missed Mass. Even when on vacation, Josephine would be sure to search a local parish's worship schedule, ensuring her family's attendance at Mass. She enjoyed travelling the United States, Canada and when the opportunity was available, an occasional visit to her family in Germany. Josephine was an excellent cook. Her family will forever cherish Josephine's famous German meatballs.

Surviving Josephine is her devoted daughter, Kathleen Griffin (Michael Russo) of Northborough; three beloved granddaughters, Tanya Rubio (Justin), Colette Russo (Paul), Kasandra J Russo (Tiffany); five great-grandchildren, Jayden and Elleigh Rubio, Amelia, Jack and Aren Alger and one sister, Erna Ortmeier of Germany.

A calling hour will be held from 9-10 a.m. on Thursday, October 3, at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. A funeral Mass will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernadette Parish, 266 Main St, Northborough. Burial will follow in Howard St. Cemetery. Josephine's family respectfully request that  memorial contributions be directed to St. Bernadette Parish.
