Northborough/Bridgton, ME - Kathleen A. (Fairbanks) Schleyer Sandell, 93, passed away on February 14, 2016 in Bridgton Healthcare Center. Her husbands Norman Schleyer died in 1980 and Leonard Sandell in 1997. She leaves two sons, Norman Schleyer Jr. of Harrison, ME and Russell Schleyer and wife Sharon of Hopkinton; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a stepson, John Sandell of Marshfield; two stepdaughters, Linda Carbone of Watertown and June Sarmanian of Edgecomb, ME. Her son Richard Schleyer died in 1999. Kathleen was born and raised in Shrewsbury. She was a graduate of Westborough State School of Nursing. Mrs. Sandell spent her nursing career working at Marlborough Hospital during the 1970s through 1980s. Kathleen lived on Rice Ave. in Northborough for 61 years before relocating to Maine. In her early years, she was a member of the Eastern Star, Mizpah Chapter in Marlborough and was a past worthy matron. Her hobbies included hooking rugs, knitting and sewing. Mrs. Sandell enjoyed playing cards at the Northborough Senior Center. Kathleen's funeral will be held on Monday, February 29, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St. Northborough. There are no calling hours. Burial will follow in Howard St. Cemetery, Northborough. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in remembrance of Mrs. Schleyer, to the Northborough Senior Center, 119 Bearfoot Rd, Northborough, MA 01532.
