NORTHBOROUGH

Kathleen Marie Hogan, lovingly known to all as Kathy, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, while surrounded by the supportive love of her family. She was the devoted wife and best friend of James E. Hogan. Kathy and Jim had been eagerly looking forward to celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on June 18th, a milestone that reflected a lifetime of love, partnership, and unwavering devotion.

Born in Worcester and raised in Auburn, Kathy was the daughter of the late John G. and Ellen (Cominski) Berg. She graduated from Auburn High School with the Class of 1962 alongside Jim, her high school sweetheart. She later attended the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester, earning her Registered Nurse credentials and beginning a lifelong calling of caring for others.

Kathy and Jim were married in 1966 and spent two years in Amherst before embarking on an extraordinary adventure together with the Peace Corps. For three years, Kathy served as a nurse while Jim taught in Brazil and other parts of South America. The experience reflected their shared commitment to helping others and exploring the world together.

Upon returning home, they settled in Arlington, where Kathy began her nursing career at the then Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. Over the course of more than four decades, she dedicated herself to the care of countless patients, retiring from what is now Brigham and Women's Hospital. A testament to her determination and work ethic, Kathy balanced a demanding nursing career while raising her young family and continuing her education. She earned both her Bachelor of Science and Master's Degree in Nursing from Boston College. The couple would later live in Westford before making Northborough their home in 1978.

Kathy and Jim shared a love of travel that took them throughout the United States and around the world, including journeys across Europe, the Canadian Arctic, and Africa. She loved animals of all kinds, especially giraffes, and would always hold a special place in her heart for her late and forever beloved collie, Holly.

Known for her caring nature, Kathy was a loyal friend who looked forward to taking the time to chat- she never turned down the opportunity for a good story. She possessed a thoughtful, methodical mind and approached both her profession and personal life with logic, compassion, and common sense. Family and friends often relied upon her sound judgment and steady perspective. Kathy also found great joy in gardening and birding and was an active member of the Northborough Garden Club, the Forbush Bird Club of Worcester, and the Brookline Bird Club. She and Jim were longtime members of Saint Rose of Lima Parish. She and Jim were rarely apart, sharing a partnership built on friendship, mutual respect, and enduring love.

In addition to her beloved husband, Jim, Kathy leaves her three children and their families: Emily Miller and her husband, Nicholas, and their children, Dustin and Vivian; Pamela Gugaina and her husband, Thomas, and their children, Benjamin and Adam; and Seamus Hogan. She is also survived by her brother, Steven Berg and his wife, Sharon; her sister, Jeanne Davis; extended family members and many friends. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Kirk Davis.

Family and friends are invited to gather for calling hours from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, at Saint Rose of Lima Parish, 244 West Main Street, Northborough. Burial will follow in Howard Street Cemetery, Northborough.

Kathy’s family respectfully suggest memorial donations be directed to the World Wildlife Fund ( www.worldwildlife.org ).

Though her gentle presence will be deeply missed, Kathy's legacy of compassion, service, wisdom, and love will continue to live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her or to have been cared for by her.
