Berlin – Lawrence "Larry" R. Foster passed away June 20, 2015 with the grateful support of Salmon Hospice care and the staff at Beaumont of Westborough. At his passing he was three weeks from his 90th birthday. His beloved wife Ada Barbara (Heeley) Foster died in 2009 after 50 years of marriage. Larry was born in Upper Granville, Nova Scotia and moved to Berlin at age 4, and was a lifelong resident of Berlin. Larry leaves behind his children, Brian Foster and his wife Deborah of Bradenton, FL / Murphy, NC; June Chng of Worcester; grandchildren Greg and Carol and an extended close family from Barbara's side. Mr. Foster graduated from Hudson High School, class of 1943. He became a U.S citizen in order to enlist in the U.S. Navy where he received flight training and was subsequently stationed at the Naval Air Force Base on the south pacific island of Tinian. During his duty he witnessed the departure of the two planes carrying the atomic bombs that ended the war with Japan. After WW II, he worked as a machinist in Clinton and later formed and ran several successful contracting businesses. An avid golfer, he belonged to Berlin Country Club for many years and was active in town government. Larry and Barbara wintered in Manatee County, FL for nearly 30 years. He shall be remembered as a man with simple needs, a work ethic second to none, ethics and a willingness to help others. Calling hours will be held Saturday, July 11, 2015 from 10-12 a.m. at the Hays Funeral Home, Northborough, Massachusetts followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will take place in Berlin's South Cemetery, immediately following the services.
