Obituary

Northborough

On Monday, March 24, 2025, Mark G. Carey passed away at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester after a period of declining health. He was 66 years old. Mark was born in Torrington, CT, and raised in Northborough, MA, the son of Donald and Rita (Moscarillo) Carey. Mark attended Northborough Public Schools prior to enrolling at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School where he excelled in the horticultural program. After graduation in 1978, Mark enrolled in the U.S. Army where he honorably completed his duties.

For most of his career Mark concentrated on grounds and athletic field maintenance. For many years, until his retirement in 2022, visitors to Algonquin Regional High School have enjoyed the well-maintained facilities there, due in part to the determined efforts of Mark's pride and skill.

Throughout all his life, Mark was a hardcore sports fan. It did not matter the season, Mark would eagerly follow hockey, baseball, football, basketball; if the season was here, you could bet Mark was following it. He was a dedicated NASCAR fan, enjoyed spending quiet time fishing and challenging himself at archery. Year after year Mark looked forward to spending time with family and friends at Hampton Beach where he made many memories. Mark was an avid Grateful Dead fan. He enjoyed sharing stories of the many cross-country road trips taken as a bonafide "deadhead" to catch a concert while enjoying the long strange trip. Friends and family alike will miss his unique sense of humor and knowing he would always be there, willing to offer a helping hand without having to be asked.

Surviving Mark is his wife Doreen L. (Brewster) Carey; three children, Nicole Sweetsir (Joe Durling), Dawn Reis (John Chauvin) and George Buzzell, all who reside in Northborough; two granddaughters Amber Sweetsir and Hailey Reis; his granddog Millie who he constantly spoiled; a brother Don Carey of Center Harbor, NH; nieces, nephews and many friends he has made over the years.

Following Mark's wishes, all services are private, for his family.

To honor Mark's time in the service and love of animals, his family respectfully request memorial donations be directed to NEADS World Class Service Dogs, P.O. Box 1100, Princeton, MA 01541. (www.neads.org).
