Obituary

Pamela J. Moriarty, "Pam", passed away peacefully on June 19, 2024 at her home in Boylston, MA with her family at her side. She was born in Dublin, Ireland on February 21, 1934, the daughter of Henry Cecil Jeffrey and Kay (Kathleen) Jeffrey, née Hall.

Pamela married Brian J. Moriarty in February of 1954, and started a family in Mount Merrion, a suburb of Dublin, Ireland. With three children under the age of five years old, Brian secured a position with MIT in Massachusetts and the whole family emigrated to America in December 1959. In 1963, the family was blessed with another child, completing their family.

While raising a family of four, Pam discovered a love of writing and teaching. During the late 1960's, Pam went to Northeastern University and earned her first Master's degree in teaching. She followed this in the 1970's with a second Master's in Special Education.

She first taught creative writing to high school students, then taught academically challenged high school students, and finally she was a special education teacher for elementary school students until she retired in 2006.

She had never left her love of writing and wrote with discipline every day for years. When she retired, she was able to dedicate her time to working on her craft. She published a memoir called "What Happened to My Mother". When she was 84 years old, she discovered through a family member across the pond that she in fact had a half brother. DNA confirmed this to be true. Through weekly conversations with her half brother, Bill McIntyre, who lives in Scotland, she wrote her second published book, "Somebody's Son" a memoir of his life which parallelled her own life in many ways.

Pamela is survived by her four children, Karen Moriarty, Diana Moriarty, Colin Moriarty and Alice Moriarty; two grandchildren, Maura Viteritti and Shannon Viteritti and three great-grandchildren, Camryn Cazares, Caelyn Viteritti and Vienna Viteritti, all who she dearly cherished. She in turn is loved greatly and will be missed forever by everyone who knew this exceptional woman.
