NORTHBOROUGH —
Philip E. Devine, respectfully known by many as Deacon Phil Devine, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, following a recent decline in health. He was 82. Born in Dorchester, he was the son of the late Joseph G. and Mary (McInnis) Devine. Phil earned degrees in Business and later an MBA, worked for W.R. Grace & Co., Sherwin-Williams, and Digital Equipment Corporation, and faithfully served the Catholic Church as a Permanent Deacon at St. Anne Parish in Southborough, St. Mary’s Parish in Shrewsbury, and as Chaplain at North Central Correctional Institution in Gardner. Phil also served as Assistant Director of the Worcester Permanent Diaconate Program.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol M. (Hume) Devine; four sons, Philip, Joseph, Stephen, and Paul; six grandchildren; his sister, Ellen Goetz; and his brother, John Devine.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, July 12, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 13, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Parish, 244 West Main Street, Northborough. Burial will follow in Howard Street Cemetery, Northborough.
