Shrewsbury - Richard P. O'Brien, 64, passed away on April 16, 2016 after a period of declining health. He leaves his beloved wife of 40 years, Patricia A. (Boland) O'Brien; his three children, Michael O'Brien and Andrew O'Brien both of Shrewsbury, Colleen O'Brien of West Chester, PA; his mother-in-law, Olga Boland of Salem, NH; his sister-in-law Anne O'Brien of Shrewsbury, as well as 6 nephews. Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Robert F. and Florence (Grigas) O'Brien. Rich was raised in Northborough and was proud to claim it as home. A graduate of St. John's High School, he attended UNH, and went on to complete his degree in Finance from Clark University in 1985. Mr. O'Brien spent his 25-year working career at Norton Company as a Line Technician, retiring in 2000. He later worked at Rocky's Ace Hardware in Northborough. As a member of the Northborough Senior Center, he enjoyed playing cribbage and was a member of the Dull Men's Group there. Rich was a member of the Worcester Dart League playing out of Greendale's and was an avid Red Sox fan. He had a passion for building electronic components and speakers. All funeral service will be held privately. Burial will be in Howard St. Cemetery, Northborough. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Northborough Senior Center, 119 Bearfoot Rd. Northborough, MA 01532.
