Roland
Wilkinson
Jun 1, 1931 — Jun 30, 2013
Berlin-Roland J "Jack" Wilkinson, 82, a Berlin resident of nearly 50 years, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter, Liz, in Upton, MA. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Jackson Michigan in 1931, to RJ & Ellen Wilkinson he was raised with two sisters, Betty & June, in what he termed an "idyllic, golden era".
Jack graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and began his creative career in Massachusetts where he met his wife, Roberta Nordbeck of Wayland. Together they raised 6 children until her death in 2004.
His vocation in Graphic Design stimulated his passion for aesthetic beauty, but he truly thrived at his home whether he was singlehandedly arranging gigantic boulders and plants in his rock garden, or experimenting with painting, photography and sculpting. Fishing was a lifelong obsession and he enjoyed crosswords, golfing, reading, and politics. His gentle nature helped to nurture an appreciation of beauty and intellectual curiosity in those who spent time with him. His keen wit and ironic sense of humor will be dearly missed.
He leaves his family: Elizabeth and Michael Evans, Laura and Gary Probert of Chester, NJ, Theodore and Michelle Wilkinson of Manomet , Katherine Amy Wilkinson of Fitchburg, Peter Wilkinson of Wakefield, Julia Wilkinson and Stephen Bonina of Upton; 5 grandchildren, Alex, Sonja, Emily, Jack and Dylan Jackson and three great grandchildren, Kayla, Lyra and Rylin as well as nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 5th from 4 to 7pm at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough, MA. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any charity inspired by the donor's personal relationship with Jack.
