Susan (Pierce) Rahn passed away peacefully at home on May 6, 2016 with family by her side. She was 64 years old. She leaves behind her son Peter Rahn (and partner Melissa Neff) in Missoula, Montana; her daughters, Joanne Wells (and husband Bryan Wells) in New Boston, NH; Cynthia Obada (and husband George Obada) in Northborough, MA, with whom she lived; her four grandchildren (Gregory, Nicole, Sophie, and Lyvia); and her sisters, Marie Crumb of Seabeck, WA, and Carol Dionne of Edmond, Oklahoma. Born in Binghamton, NY, and raised in Chenago Bridge, NY, Susan was the daughter of the late Robert and Frances Pierce. Susan graduated from SUNY-Brockport

in 1972 with a BSN in Nursing. Later in her career, she obtained an MBA from the University of Hartford.

Her distinguished nursing career spanned for 38 years. She worked as Head Nurse at the Buffalo, NY Veteran's Administration Medical Center before moving to Norwich, CT. Susan helped to create the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center at Backus Hospital in Norwich. She served as the Program Director there from 1984-2010.

In Connecticut, she opened a chapter of the Mending Hearts program, an aftercare community for individuals who had experienced heart failure. She was nominated for and received a Nightingale award for Excellence in Nursing while at Backus Hospital.

Susan enjoyed singing in her church choir, reading and trips to the beach with her dogs Gretchen and Jack. She was a devoted wife and an incredibly nurturing, selfless, and loving woman who loved nothing more than being a mother and grandmother.

A celebration of life will be held on May 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Hays Funeral
