WILLIAM F. LOWE JR.
MARCH 30, 1930 - NOVEMBER 9, 2022
BERLIN
Mr. William F. Lowe, 92, of Berlin, passed away on November 9, 2022. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Doris Spaulding Lowe; three sons Stephen Lowe and his wife Christine of Florida, Robert Lowe and his wife Shirley of Florida, Scott Lowe of West, Boylston, Mass; a daughter Sarah Dedrick and her husband Walter of Methuen and a stepdaughter Laura Callahan of Berlin. He also leaves 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson, many nieces and nephews, and so many friends whom he cherished dearly along the way. Bill was predeceased by one son, William F. Lowe, III.
Bill was a businessman who learned from his loving mother and father, the late William F. and Margaret E. (Dempsey) Lowe, Sr., that working hard could bring many benefits. The oldest of six, Bill was the epitome of the big brother and mentor for his five younger brothers, Richard, Eldon, John, James, and Donald, all who preceded Bill in death. Starting as a paper-boy at the age of seven for the Telegram, he grew to enjoy reading his paper every Sunday from there on. After school, He served his Country for 14 years in the Army National Guard. His supermarket career began with Iandolis, which he enjoyed greatly, inspiring him to continue on this career path through Orlando Supermarket, and then Super Duper Supermarket.
In 1965, he purchased The Corner Store in Northborough, MA. In 1967, Bill decided to purchase Leroux's Meat Market in Berlin. And in the Spring of 1968, opened Lowes Variety & Meat Shop at that location. Wishing to expand his business, he purchased The Berlin General Store in 1981.
Throughout the years, he enjoyed volunteering his time at The Berlin Council on Aging, Selectman's Board, and Investment Advisory Board as well as his involvement in the Town Council Meetings of Northborough and Berlin.
Bill, who retired at the young age of 89, found that he enjoyed that extra time playing rummy with Doris and telling her how much he loved her. Up until his passing, He was always so humble and generous, never asking for anything in return, only wanting the best for all, especially his loving Wife. He will truly be missed.
