William J. McShane Sr. passed away peacefully August 27, 2016, at Marlborough Hills Healthcare Center at the age of 92. He leaves his former wife Kathleen McShane; his children, William McShane Jr. of Harwich, Kevin McShane of New Sharon, ME; Martin McShane of Worcester; Robert McShane of Rutland; Mark McShane of Worcester; John McShane of Hopedale; Diane Lents of Simi Valley, CA; Claire Despres of Millbury; 18 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his long time companion, Mary E. Cunningham also of Northborough. Born in Marlborough, Bill was a lifelong resident of Northborough. Mr. McShane worked at Westborough State Hospital from 1945-1956 and Bay State Abrasives in Westborough as a Stationary Engineer from 1956-1986. He later worked at Suprenant Wire and Cable in the Security Dept. from 1991- 2001. Bill was known by many as a passionate gentleman farmer who raised sheep, geese, pigs, turkeys and cows on his School Street property. Mr. McShane proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and the Korean War. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St. Northborough. Bill's funeral will take place on Thursday, September 1at 10 a.m. with military honors, in the funeral home. Burial is private.
